Birthday Pie: Old Fashioned Strawberry Rhubarb

Everyone should be so lucky in life...
 ... to have a grandpa.

A grandpa to know and love through the years...

And if by chance
you don't have a grandpa anymore...
you can borrow mine for today.
...at least for this post, and
enjoy the happy memories I'm sharing.

He would happily be a grandpa to you too...

My grandpa is the good kind of grandpa...
the kind of grandpa that puts together your big wheel at Christmas...
...shows you all the animals at the zoo when you are two...

He can talk about baseball and fishing...
carpentry and birds... grandpa stuff.
...Mostly because, those are and were some of his favorite pastimes...

Don't bring up politics...

...unless you have a spare hour or two to hear his concerns.

He's always ready with a quick smile and a silly joke...

And he always, always, always, bids you farewell with a wave of his red handkerchief
from the porch steps of the house he built with his very own hands...

That's grandpa.

He turned 91 this week...

91 years of memories... most of which he can still easily recall.

He can still tell you about his pet dog as a boy,
his family...
He can tell about childhood adventures of sled riding and playing marbles...
If you ask, he'll even tell you about his service in WWII...

For his 91st birthday, I had the honor
of making him a birthday pie...

An old-fashioned
rhubarb pie.

Older and Wiser

Sometimes things just have a way of
getting away from you...

A whole two weeks slipped by
without a single blog post from yours truly...

...I did think about checking in...
I did...

...But then life got busy.
...as life tends to do...

Which is actually what makes great memories...
...and fun stories...
and is exactly the ingredient bloggers need to create great blog posts.

...and so...
I'll take a crazy busy life any day of the week.

To bring everyone up to speed on the last two weeks...

It included in no particular order:
travel, lots of laughter, the best biscuits this girl has tasted -ever,
a fair, celebrations, baseball games, fence-building, painting, rain delays,
stopping to smell roses...
or in this case...
weeping cherry blossoms... (it's a little early for roses)
...and much much more...

Making Lemonade Out of Particle Board and Sawdust

There's a hole in my floor, where there wasn't before...

What is a DIY blogger to do now....??

The fence that was up...is now down on the ground...

What will this blogger do now??

Well...

She better get busy and start some repairs.... that's what.

I am sure you've been right there... right?
 Standing where I am ...
in the midst of a few...
ahem... or some might say... many... unfinished....
unresolved, sorta-started projects...  and a few are doozies...

This is a quick update on the latest DIY projects...or How I'm making lemons into lemonade....

All About That Base...Baseball Party

We are a baseball lovin' family.

...And with this week marking the start of baseball season...
A baseball inspired post just feels right.

... Ever since our son began playing little league a few years ago...

Well...

...it's a whole new world.

A world...as seen through the eyes of our baseball obsessed son...

So, it should come as no surprise that
when he turned eight years old....

The party was all about that "base"...
ahem... or ...rather baseball.

Kid tested and approved... with the ornery and very happy thumbs up!

Read on to see inside the party and some of the fun baseball inspired party ideas.

Easter Finds for a Special Occasion

I love quotes...

I do.

I just love that...

someone...said just what I was thinking...

or feeling... or really needed to hear.......but they said it better...

so eloquently...

and with far fewer words...pithy....

and not a typo to be found...always a bonus...

I have gathered quite a collection of quotes I like
 on my Pinterest board.

I like to read them...they fill me with hope and optimism
and sometimes make me laugh, right out loud even...

This one in particular resonates with me:

 As each holiday draws near,
I think about all the effort and time that we...
...that I....
...that you....
...that all of us....

put into "special occasions" ....

Why do we do it??

Would it make any difference if I didn't set the table??

Skipped the frills??

Made no dessert??

Easter would still arrive on April 5th...

And yes, Easter would come and go...and maybe no one would
complain...

However...

I choose to celebrate...

everyday.

....and most especially holidays.

I choose to make memories...

....to have traditions....

...to put forth a little extra effort every single day.

Why??

 I choose to celebrate the

"special" days...

right along with the "every days"...

...because that's what it's all about.

It's about making the MOST of every day.

Everyday can't be a holiday, but every day can be special.
...oh... wow...I just made my own quote....  --Karri Perry

I gathered up some of my favorite Easter Finds for the kiddos...
that will certainly make Easter feel
as special as my littlest guests are to me.
